Procrastination therapy:

I feel overwhelmed by all the tasks and problems I am currently facing

You can be overwhelmed in 2 ways:
  1. The task that you procrastinate on is very demanding, boring or will take forever to complete. The more you think about it, the more you don’t feel like doing it.

  2. You have so many different things to be done and it just feels too much. Even if you begin working on something, your mind constantly jumps to other worries and tasks that are awaiting you.

So, in both cases, there are a lot thoughts emerging in you mind. Science tells us that thoughts are leading to emotions. For example, when you think about how much work you have left to do, this will trigger a whole set of negative emotions.

Because these emotions are not pleasant, you quickly find something more fun to do (scrolling social media, playing video games, porn, etc.), so the negative emotions will be pushed down for a while.

As soon as you think about doing anything productive again, again will re-emerge the thoughts and negative emotions. You decide to run from them again and cycle of wasting your life continues.

The only way to break this cycle is to calm your mind. Calmer mind means less thoughts which means less negative emotions. If you don’t feel negative emotions, you don’t feel the need to run from them by scrolling social media and other vices.
The good news is, you can calm your mind and remove negative emotions that prevent you from starting a task while lying in bed, with phone in your hand. You don’t even have to get up to change your emotional state.
